Dawn operation in the shadow of Saraçhane... A message from İmamoğlu: 'This nation is aware of everything'

In the early hours of the morning, as part of an investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, detention warrants were issued for a total of 157 people, including former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, and numerous municipal bureaucrats and contractors. So far, 120 people have been detained.

MESSAGE FROM IMAMOĞLU FROM THE PRISON WHERE HE IS HELD

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and imprisoned CHP politician Ekrem İmamoğlu made a striking statement on his social media account regarding the operation, ahead of the rally to be held today in Saraçhane, which coincides with the 100th day of his imprisonment.

“WILL THIS COUNTRY WAKE UP TO A NEW CONSPIRACY EVERY DAY?”

In his post, İmamoğlu included the following statements:

“Does this country have to wake up every morning to a new lawlessness, new operations, and new conspiracies? Will you never allow us to talk about the country's real agenda and the nation's troubles?”

Drawing attention to the fact that the detentions in İzmir took place just before the Saraçhane rally, İmamoğlu emphasized that individuals who could have been called to testify as part of the investigation were instead taken in dawn raids, and that this is part of “oppressive policies.”

“YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO INTIMIDATE SOCIAL OPPOSITION”

In the continuation of his statement, İmamoğlu noted the following:

“The dawn raids carried out in İzmir this morning are a new part of the oppressive environment that the government is trying to impose on the country. The sole purpose of detaining people who could have been summoned to testify via invitation in an ongoing investigation, right before the major gathering to be held in Saraçhane, is to corner social opposition even further.”

Stating that the purpose of the operations is to manipulate public opinion, İmamoğlu said:

“No matter what you do, you have not been able to convince the nation of the perception you are trying to create, and you will not be able to. This noble nation is aware of everything that is happening.”
