‘Declaration’ controversy grows: Sharp response from CHP to Meral Akşener’s remarks
İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener commented on the CHP’s refusal to sign the joint declaration against terrorism in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, saying, “The PKK members must be very happy.” A sharp reaction came from the Republican People’s Party front to Meral Akşener.
In the İYİ Party, which has decided to enter the local elections ‘freely and independently’, Chairperson Meral Akşener targeted the CHP, which did not sign the joint declaration against terrorism, during her party’s group meeting.
“Scream, shout, and yell all you want,” said Akşener, adding, “We will go as free and independent and become the voice of this nation, and we will win. Shake hands, brother. Shake hands with DEM in an honest, open way; is there anyone stopping you?”
REACTION FROM CHP WAS NOT DELAYED
The reaction from CHP officials to this harsh outburst by Akşener was not delayed.
According to the report by Cumhuriyet; stating that a political style carried out in parallel with the AKP would not yield results, CHP members said, “How right is it to follow a political party that has been in power for 21 years? We are not obliged to determine our stance according to the AKP’s stance.”
"CITIZENS WILL GIVE THE NECESSARY ANSWER ON MARCH 31"
Underlining that the CHP cannot be accused of terrorism, the party members stated, “We are the party that founded this country and drew the National Pact (Misak-ı Millî) borders. Even bringing the CHP side-by-side with terrorist groups is immoral. The İYİ Party has chosen a path for itself and is following it. May their path be clear. On March 31, the citizens will give the necessary answer at the ballot box.”
Emphasizing that the CHP continues to respect the İYİ Party voters despite this attitude, the officials said, “The İYİ Party emerged after the MHP began walking with the AKP. Trying to pull voters who are dissatisfied with the People’s Alliance to the side of the People’s Alliance will not yield results. When the real thing exists, who would want the fake one?”
