DEM jab at Burcu Köksal after joining AKP: 'Now that you are arm-in-arm with them...'

Before the March 31 local elections, Burcu Köksal drew public attention with her statement, "If I am elected, the doors of the municipality will be open to everyone except the DEM Party." Her recent departure from the CHP to join the AKP continues to be a major topic of discussion.

Following Köksal's transfer, the question of "Will she open the doors to the DEM members?" has found its place on the political agenda.

According to a report in Sözcü, CHP Istanbul Deputy Cemal Enginyurt criticized Köksal's party switch, stating, "Now that she has become an AKP member and has entered into an alliance with those who are 'brewing' in Ankara, what will she do? Now that she is arm-in-arm with them, she should apologize to the DEM members for having said that." Enginyurt also pointed out that there are no DEM Party members in Afyonkarahisar, reminding everyone of Köksal's past rhetoric.

Referring to the social media memorial post Burcu Köksal made on May 6, the anniversary of the executions of Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Aslan, and Hüseyin İnan, Enginyurt said, "She had no shame. Deniz Gezmiş was not afraid when he went to his execution; he said, 'Long live a fully independent Turkey,' and kicked the chair away himself. Why were you afraid and why did you go to the AKP?"

Enginyurt also responded to criticisms directed at him regarding his own party change, saying, "Bahçeli kicked me out because I criticized Erdoğan, and I am glad he did. The CHP embraced me. I was elected with the legitimate votes of CHP members; may God not let those votes go to waste."

This meeting included Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu and Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal, both of whom had previously been the subject of controversy due to their transition to the AKP. Dinar Mayor Veysel Topçu was also seen alongside Köksal.
