DEM Party announces its local election manifesto

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan spoke at a meeting held at a hotel in Ankara where their election manifesto was announced.

Stating that their manifesto is a program on how to build free cities through local democracy, Hatimoğulları said, "Our manifesto is an indicator of how justice, peace, freedom, equality, brotherhood, and the democratic system will spread from the local level."

Noting that their manifesto, which defends workers' rights and produces solutions, is a program for gender-libertarian, democratic, and ecological local governments against the male-dominated system, Hatimoğulları said, "Our manifesto is a program for empowered local governments against authoritarian central administrations. It is a democratic program where the word, authority, and decision belong to the people."

Explaining that they will provide equal service to all citizens in municipalities, make city councils open to the public, and ensure the participation of democratic mass organizations in meetings, Hatimoğulları said they will continue women-libertarian municipalism and establish free women's villages.

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE TO BE USURPED"

Tuncer Bakırhan also stated that they are striving for cities where people can live freely under their local administrations, and that they have written multilingual municipalism, the co-chair system, and local democracy experiences into the country's history.

Noting that local democracy is also the key to solving problems stemming from centralism, Bakırhan said, "We will not allow the will of the people to be usurped again through trustees."
