DEM Party criticizes Minister of Justice: 'Do your job'
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan reacted to the statements of Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, stating that justice cannot be achieved through wordplay.
Tensions are rising in the new reconciliation process initiated by the government following Devlet Bahçeli's call. DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan responded to Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç's remarks, "What do you mean the ball is in the government's court?" Doğan emphasized that the ministry must fulfill its historical responsibility.
DEBATE OVER THE "BALL" EXPRESSION
DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları had said in her speech at the TBMM Group Meeting, "The ball is now in the government's court regarding the steps that need to be taken, primarily regarding Öcalan's freedom of communication and work." Following these words, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç reacted by saying, "We are not playing ball here; there is a serious issue regarding the elimination of terrorism."
Tunç also stated that there are no negotiations with the DEM Party and that the demands regarding convicts in prison are not a give-and-take process.
CALL FROM DEM PARTY
Continuing its rhetoric regarding the resolution process, the DEM Party stated that the government should use more constructive language. In a statement made via social media, Ayşegül Doğan said, "Our goal is to ensure peace, justice, and democracy. We must all take responsibility in this regard. Law, democracy, and justice cannot be achieved through wordplay. The resolution of a historical problem requires seriousness. We invite your ministry to use a language and approach that assumes this historical responsibility. Please, do your job!"
