DEM Party gives green light to alliance with CHP

Will the CHP and the DEM Party cooperate in the local elections? The final declaration from the DEM Party Assembly, where the answer to that question was awaited, emphasized that they are "open to negotiation." No clear decision regarding the local election strategy was announced. Authority was granted to the DEM Party Co-Chairs.

While there is curiosity about whether the party, formerly known as the HDP and now as the DEM Party, will re-implement the strategy of not fielding candidates in Istanbul and Ankara as it did in 2019, they had previously announced during a Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting that they were inclined to field their own candidates in all 81 provinces. Recently, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan.

According to information obtained from the party assembly that convened after that visit, the secret protocol made with Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ during the second round of the presidential election by the CHP was brought to the agenda. It was emphasized that they did not find it correct. The view that the process should be managed transparently came to the forefront.

Furthermore, the DEM Party decided to establish a city consensus commission. It is stated that they could sit at the table with different political parties within the scope of the city consensus strategy. In the Assembly's final declaration, it was stated, "We see creating the ground for a city consensus that will weave a common struggle in the west of Turkey as a priority task."

The published declaration also stated, "Our tendency to take part in city administrations with our own candidates and lists has been further strengthened by the discussions at our Assembly meeting."

It is stated that the DEM Party's final decision will emerge after the central executive committee meeting to be held on Monday.
