DEM Party holds group meeting at the border: Attacks Bahçeli, defends SDF!

The group meeting, which the DEM Party usually holds every week in Ankara, was organized this time in the Nusaybin district of Mardin to highlight the latest situation in Syria. Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan led a protest march with party members before the meeting, which was held at the Border Park located right next to the border.

Following the march, which started at the Railway Junction and continued to the Border Park, developments in Syria and Rojava, which are in the shadow of conflict, were discussed at the group meeting.

'THE TABLE WAS SUDDENLY OVERTURNED'

In her speech here, Hatimoğulları stated the following:

“We are currently in Nusaybin, at ground zero. A few steps away from us, in Rojava, our Kurdish brothers and sisters are under the threat of a violent war. A violent war and conflict are ongoing in Rojava. While negotiations regarding the March 10 agreement were still underway; while talks were continuing between the interim Damascus administration and the SDF, the autonomous administration, the table was suddenly overturned, and the way was paved for war and conflict.

In Aleppo, a relentless massacre was first launched against the Kurdish people in the Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. We condemn everyone who started this massacre. We say no to war, peace right now.

An occupation movement has been launched first west of the Euphrates, and now east of the Euphrates, that is, on Rojava soil. It is impossible to accept this.

In Turkey, the pro-government media, the pool media, and the spokespersons of the AKP-MHP government are trying to fill the Turkish and world public opinion with false information about the developments in Syria. What are they saying? That the administration in Rojava did not comply with the March 10 agreement.

This is a complete lie. The one that did not comply with the March 10 agreement is the interim Damascus administration itself. And today, the responsibility for everyone exposed to the massacre there, especially your people, lies with the Damascus administration, with ISIS, and with the international powers that support them."

'THEY WANT THE KURDS TO SURRENDER'

Afterward, Tuncer Bakırhan took the podium and brought up the developments just across the Turkish border and the political debates in Ankara. Bakırhan said, “I think we are the party that does not hold its group meeting under the roof of the Assembly but in various cities. We condemn those who created these days. There is an organization in North East Syria, its extensions, and the international powers supporting it. In Rojava, the Kurds are alone, and the world has united. They are uniting so that the Kurds live without status and without identity. They say give up your gains, they say Kurdish youth should not be educated in their mother tongue in Kobani. They want the Kurds to surrender. Do we want our kinsmen there to live a life without dignity?

The regime set a trap in Aleppo. Vilely. Even though the Kurds withdrew in accordance with the agreement, they tried to drive the Kurds out with cannons and rifles. Those who did not comply with the March 10 agreement are the Assad regime. May our hearts wither if we forget the enemies of the Kurds. The government media is creating a perception. It wants to portray the Kurdish language as a threat. The real threat is the Assad government.

The Turkish public must know this very well. They shamelessly say that there is a common destiny between Kurds and Turks. What kind of common destiny have you built when you are hostile across the border? On one hand, you extend a hand of peace, and on the other, you facilitate the massacre of our people living in Rojava. This is hypocrisy, this is deceit. At these hours when we are holding our group meeting, they are attacking the youth. I call on the authorities to act carefully. Be a little respectful. We do not accept this," he said.

'THE SDF REPRESENTS THE KURDS AS CLEAR AS DAY'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's words, "The SDF does not represent the Kurds," were also brought to the agenda at the meeting. Bakırhan said, “These gentlemen are also deciding who represents whom. They say don't speak your language, don't have a status. Are we going to ask you who represents whom? The SDF represents the Kurds as clear as day. The autonomous administration represents all the peoples there. You cannot make this judgment. If you put the ballot box, could you get the consent of this society? You cannot. Who do you represent, anyway? Mr. Devlet Bahçeli says, 'the founding leader of the PKK,' but he doesn't do what he says, he says, 'Every inch must be cleaned, dried out.' Are you a dry cleaner?” he said.

In the briefing published by the DEM Party Press Bureau before the group meeting, it was stated that the meeting would be held in the Nusaybin district of Mardin instead of Ankara on Tuesday, January 20. Participants gathered at the Railway Junction on the Midyat Road and marched to the Border Park, where the meeting was held with the participation of the party's co-chairs.
