DEM Party insists on Öcalan: Another reaction to Yeni Şafak's İmralı headline...
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan called on the government to take a clear stance for the progress of the İmralı process and argued that terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan should be heard.
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made significant assessments regarding the İmralı process during a press conference held by her party. Doğan stated that despite the PKK's call to lay down arms, no concrete progress has been made in the political process, and she called on the government to "clearly state its position." Doğan emphasized that the government's stance on this issue must be clearly explained, stating that otherwise, it would open the door to further debate.
NO STEPS TAKEN AFTER SULAYMANIYAH DECISION
Reminding that the PKK had burned its weapons in Sulaymaniyah and decided to withdraw its forces from Turkey, Doğan said, "Weeks have passed, but not a single concrete step has been taken yet. Days are going by, but nothing is moving." The failure to take concrete steps toward a political solution was evaluated as the biggest obstacle to the progress of the process.
CRITICISM OF THE COMMISSION'S POSTPONEMENT
Criticizing the failure of the İmralı Commission established in Parliament to convene, Doğan deemed the reason for the commission's postponement unacceptable. "It was announced that the commission was postponed due to the schedules of the ministers who need to be heard. In such a critical process, this justification is unacceptable," said Doğan, noting that the necessary steps to accelerate the process have not been taken.
WHY IS THE İMRALI COMMISSION NOT CONVENING?
Recalling the statements by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli and President Erdoğan that "the commission should hear the parties involved," Doğan asked, "While everyone is talking so much, why is the commission not convening with this agenda?" It was pointed out that the commission's failure to take action creates an obstacle to the progress of the process.
CALL FOR ÖCALAN TO BE HEARD
Arguing that terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan should be heard, Doğan said, "Mr. Öcalan is not just an organization leader, but also an important actor for a democratic solution." Doğan stated that for the process to move forward, Öcalan, as the primary actor, must be heard, and expressed that this is a necessary step to permanently deactivate weapons and ensure an equal life.
REACTION TO YENİ ŞAFAK
Doğan also criticized the media's stance on the İmralı process and made an implicit reference to the newspaper Yeni Şafak. Doğan said, "Those who run headlines saying 'The commission should not go to İmralı' should know this; it is not easy to bear the responsibility of the headlines being published."
