Name change on the agenda for DEM Party: 'The name may change'
Ahead of the party congress to be held this year, the possibility of a name change for the DEM Party has returned to the agenda. Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli addressed the speculations by speaking about potential new names.
DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli made significant remarks regarding the long-standing public speculation about a name change. Stating that the party will hold a congress this year, Temelli said that various options regarding a name change are on the agenda.
Responding to questions while appearing on İlke TV, Temelli stated, "The name may change, indeed. It could be the Democratic Republic Party, it could be the Democratic People's Party. It could be many things."
Furthermore, Temelli recalled that the name DEM Party was previously determined within the framework of party closure processes and election strategies. It was noted that the current name could be re-evaluated according to evolving conditions.
Previously, various claims had been made regarding the party's name, with suggestions that the new name would be the "Democratic Republic Party." Additionally, it had been claimed that some institutions and components within the DEM Party would close along with the party.
However, in an official statement made by the party leadership in the past period, such claims were denied. The DEM Party had announced that speculations regarding a name change did not reflect the truth.
