DEM Party reacts sharply to HDK investigation: 'The decisions made are political'

The DEM Party MYK issued a written statement regarding the investigation and arrests launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the HDK.

In the statement, it was said, "The judiciary is conducting political activities on behalf of the government," and the following expressions were used:

"The AKP government is breaking its own record every day in lawlessness, coup-plotting, and hostile attacks against all political and social forces. The operation carried out against the HDK, in which 50 people were detained—including our MYK members Semiha Şahin and Mehmet Saltoğlu, our previous term MYK members, and former HDK Co-Spokesperson Esengül Demir—and 30 people were arrested, is a complete legal disaster. As a result of this operation, house arrest decisions were made for 13 people, and 7 people were released under judicial control. With this operation, the judiciary has once again declared that it is conducting political activities on behalf of the government and does not abide by any principle of law. The grounds for detention, as well as the grounds for judicial control, house arrest, and arrest, are not legal texts, but political conspiracy texts aimed at the liquidation of the government's opponents."

'THE DECISIONS MADE ARE POLITICAL'

"The decisions made are political, the language used is political, and the image presented and the perception intended to be created are political," the statement continued, noting the following:

"The prosecutor's documents and the decisions created were prepared recklessly. The main basis for the baseless allegations put forward is the accusation of 'why are you organizing against the government, why are you engaging in politics?' The judiciary has declared opposition to the government and engaging in politics a crime. This trial is a major conspiracy. Most of the wiretaps and tape recordings that are the subject of the accusation were created in 2011, 2012, and 2013, that is, by the judiciary and law enforcement of the structure that the government labels as FETÖ, which was trying to undermine the resolution process. These were obtained illegally. The AKP government wants to complete today, with its own judiciary, the conspiracy that its partner at that time left unfinished."

'RELEASE OUR FRIENDS YOU HAVE ARRESTED'

The statement, which included the phrase "This conspiracy is based on a disruptive understanding established against the 'City Consensus' that encompasses social unity and political partnership," continued as follows:

"Moreover, it is an open lie that the HDK made a 'City Consensus' decision in the elections. Let us say once again that making the 'City Consensus' a subject of accusation means saying, 'do not come together against the government, do not carry out a joint struggle, do not act together.' It is an understanding that dynamites Kurdish-Turkish unity. It is the product of a divisive and exclusionary mentality. Our party made the 'City Consensus' decision and has honorably stood behind this decision. This decision ensured that local administrations changed hands in many places. That is why this operation is a revenge operation. The allegations created with this mentality are an open and blatant attack not against the HDK, but against the goal of living together equally and freely. But we would like to remind you that every oppressive and absolutist regime prepares its own end with its own hands and methods. The government is dragging the country into an abyss by causing great suffering to society. We will not allow the country to be dragged into an abyss. Our party will put a stop to this course of events. We say it once again: End the conspiracy cases. Release our friends whom you are holding hostage in prisons and whom you have arrested unlawfully."
