DEM Party reacts to 4th wave of operations against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları delivered significant messages at the "Democratic Local Governments Women's Meeting" held in Diyarbakır. In her speech, addressing specifically the trustee practices and the ongoing operations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Hatimoğulları stated that democratic values are being severely damaged. 

Hatimoğulları noted that the appointment of trustees not only usurps the right to vote and be elected but also causes great harm to women's representation in local governments. Hatimoğulları stated, "These trustees are, on one hand, the result of an approach that seeks to strip the Kurdish people of their right to vote and be elected, and on the other hand, a massive blow intended against women's representation, co-chairmanship, and equal representation."

"TRUSTEE LAW MUST BE ABOLISHED IMMEDIATELY"

Stating that they will continue to fight against these practices that target the DEM Party's co-chairmanship system, Hatimoğulları said:

"One of the most fundamental steps to be taken today is the immediate abolition of the trustee law. Appointed trustees must be removed from office, and the co-chairs elected by the people's votes must be reinstated. If they want to perform the duties of a district governor or a provincial governor, they should perform those duties, not run municipalities."

STRONG REACTION TO IMM OPERATIONS

In her speech, Hatimoğulları also touched upon the operations conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Stating that they woke up this morning to news of the fourth wave of operations, Hatimoğulları said, "We underline once again here that we never find the operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to be correct. You cannot put an elected official in prison. It is impossible to accept these things."
