DEM Party reacts to trustee appointment: 'This decision is null and void'

The appointment of a trustee to the Van Metropolitan Municipality has drawn a sharp reaction from DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan. Holding a press conference titled "The Process and the Trustee," Hatimoğulları and Bakırhan emphasized that this decision is an interference with the will of the people.

Speaking at the press conference, Tülay Hatimoğulları addressed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying, "We ask Erdoğan: Do you want to dynamite the existing process by appointing a trustee to Van? Are you aiming to strike a blow to the dialogue process? We know very well that the appointment of the trustee was planned in advance and that the order came from outside."

''THIS TRUSTEE IS A REVISIONIST STANCE''

Stating that the people of Van showed great resistance after the March 31 elections, Hatimoğulları said that the trustee decision is a form of revenge for this. "This government has appointed a trustee to take revenge for the stance of the people of Van in the elections. In our eyes, this trustee is null and void," she stated.

Criticizing the legal justifications for the trustee appointment, Hatimoğulları said, "Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood and urban consensus are being portrayed as organizational activities by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. If this logic is being followed, let us remind you that Mr. Devlet Bahçeli also uses the same rhetoric. If this is a crime, shouldn't a lawsuit be filed against Bahçeli as well?"

''IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN SAY THIS IS NOT MALICIOUS?''

Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan emphasized that the decision was entirely political, stating, "Is there anyone now who can say this is not malicious? It is claimed that the reason for the trustee appointment is that Mr. Zeydan went to a conflict zone. However, according to the expert report, it is clearly evident that no one went to that region."

Bakırhan stated that the will of the people has been usurped and emphasized that the people of Van will not bow to this lawlessness. The DEM Party leadership announced that they will continue their democratic and legal struggle against the trustee decision.
