DEM Party submits legislative proposal to TBMM regarding trustee appointments

DEM Party (Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party) Group Deputy Chairs Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli have submitted a legislative proposal to amend the Municipal Law to end the practice of appointing trustees.

The proposal, submitted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), suggests ending the trustee practice, which it describes as unconstitutional, and proposes the following regulation regarding the removal of mayors from office:

Municipal bodies or members of these bodies against whom an investigation or prosecution has been initiated due to one of the crimes of embezzlement, extortion, bribery, theft, fraud, forgery, breach of trust, fraudulent bankruptcy, rigging of tenders, rigging of the performance of an act, or laundering of assets derived from crime, may be suspended from duty by the Minister of Interior until a final judgment is reached.
