Dervişoğlu visits Silivri: 'Interference in the judiciary does not benefit Turkey'

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu visited Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu and journalist Fatih Altaylı, who are being held at the Silivri Prison in Istanbul. Speaking to the press after the visit, Dervişoğlu drew attention to the legal crisis in Turkey.

“İMAMOĞLU’S CONCERNS HIGHLIGHT THE POLITICAL DIMENSION”

Regarding his meeting with IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Dervişoğlu stated the following:

“Mr. İmamoğlu expressed that the ongoing investigation is a political one, but that there is an attempt to evolve this process into other areas. I believe these concerns should be shared with the public. We are also closely monitoring the developments.”

Emphasizing that the investigation launched into the IMM is not legal but politically motivated, Dervişoğlu said that these attempts damage the sense of justice.

SUPPORT FOR ALTAYLI: “HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS ACCUSED OF”

Dervişoğlu, who also met with journalist Fatih Altaylı, stated that the primary basis for the detention was “a 2.5-minute audio recording or video.” Noting that Altaylı’s indictment has not yet been prepared, Dervişoğlu made the following assessment:

“Mr. Fatih knows very well why he is being held. He is also aware of the struggle he needs to wage. His health is good, and his morale is high. However, the fact that his indictment has not yet been prepared bothers us as much as it bothers him. He asked me to convey his greetings to his loved ones.”

“EXTRA-LEGAL TRIALS HARM TURKEY”

In his general assessment following the visit, Dervişoğlu also expressed his concerns regarding Turkey’s legal system:

“Unjust detentions, irregular investigations, extra-legal trials, and external interference in the judiciary do not benefit Turkey in any way. These negative issues must be resolved, and the rule of law must be re-established.”
