Devlet Bahçeli explains the background of his TRNC remarks: 'A pro-federation man's...'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made significant assessments regarding the election results in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the political system in Turkey. Bahçeli stated that pro-federation rhetoric poses a risk to Turkey.

In his statement following the TRNC elections, Bahçeli emphasized that a decision to join Turkey should be made. He explained the reason behind this statement with the thought that the idea of a federation could create a dangerous expectation for Turkey.

Bahçeli said, "I thought that this small spark should not be allowed to grow with the victory of a pro-federation candidate."

ON THE PRESIDENTIAL GOVERNMENT SYSTEM

Bahçeli also spoke about criticisms regarding the Presidential Government System. Recounting a conversation he held at the party headquarters, he stated that the system represents the balance between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. He also reiterated his proposal for an Alevi and a Kurdish Vice President. Explaining the reasoning behind this proposal, Bahçeli said, "Anyone who reaches 51 percent can become President."
