Devlet Bahçeli takes the stage... A notable message on the constitution: A jab at Özgür Özel

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made statements following his visit to the grave of Alparslan Türkeş.

Bahçeli's statements are as follows:

"IT IS A START ON THE PATH TO BECOMING A SUPERPOWER"

"The decision for the PKK to dissolve and lay down its arms has been taken, and this was accepted and implemented by the Congress on May 12. This is an important step and an important beginning for Turkey to end terrorism. From now on, it is the beginning of an important understanding that accepts as a goal the path to becoming a great and powerful superpower in terms of permanent economic growth, social development, and national integration as a Terror-Free Turkey, strengthening within the framework of the democratization process and human rights. For that reason, today's holiday should be considered an important holiday far beyond the painful periods experienced in the past that dragged Turkey into darkness. One should act in accordance with the meaning of the holiday; all our political parties and the valuable leaders of political parties should embrace such a process, use expressions that show the goal of reaching a result that gives morale to society by choosing their concepts, and there should be no need for social tension, mutual conflict, or inviting certain people to the streets.

When Turkey enters such a process, the effort to bring young people to the streets, where they themselves cannot come, by making certain calls over university youth is accepted as the beginning of an important mistake for the future. This nation has lived through this since the 1968 period. It should not be lived through again. Youth is the apple of our nation's eye. Especially since they are a youth that is essential to be raised as an important cadre in becoming a superpower of the 21st century.

The games played over the youth must be ended. Therefore, I advise all political parties, and especially the valuable leaders and members of the CHP, to leave Saraçhane and follow in Atatürk's footsteps on the road to Ankara. Let us prepare for this for the coming periods; otherwise, there is no need for 'losing one's temper' or 'doing this or that' in these streets; there is a need for reason. Turkey needs peace and tranquility.

CALL FOR A NEW CONSTITUTION AFTER THE HOLIDAY

Therefore, we desire that a study be started that will prepare Turkey for the future by having the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) undertake an important task within the constitutional framework to be prepared after the holiday. We also wish for this as a nation. In other words, the constitution of the coups must be abolished, and it must be accepted that there is a need for a new constitution within the understanding of a founding constitution by taking the opinions of all political parties based on the national will.

Secondly, the Law on Political Parties should be reviewed.

Thirdly, the electoral system should be reviewed.

Fourthly, the internal regulations should be updated so that the TBMM can work more efficiently, and it should be put into an understanding that will make everyone feel the existence of the TBMM. It is beneficial for them to attain a structure that will ensure that parliamentary debates also continue in a style worthy of the Parliament. From now on, all political parties exist for Turkey. They are obliged to be a party of Turkey. It is necessary to get rid of the mistakes that will lead to polarization and disrupt Turkey's stability by remaining under the influence of other countries."
