Dilek İmamoğlu's harsh reaction to the nullity ruling: 'It is a democratic disgrace'

Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu included the following statements in her message:

“I am filled with great sadness, deep concern, and indescribable shame on behalf of our democracy and our country. The appointment of a trustee to the Republican People's Party is one of the clearest indicators of how heavily Turkey's democracy is being pressured. This is not merely an intervention against a political party; it is a severe blow to the will of millions of citizens, to democratic politics, and to the rule of law.”

Stating that this latest intervention is an anti-democratic step rarely seen in the history of the party and the country's politics, İmamoğlu emphasized that attempts are being made to suppress results that could not be achieved through the ballot box by using the law, and that this approach will damage democracy.

“Neither in the history of our party nor in the political history of our country has such a major anti-democratic intervention and effort to liquidate civil politics been seen. Trying to silence through the law what you cannot defeat at the ballot box will result in nothing but damaging democracy.”

Drawing attention to the founding values of the Republican People's Party and its place in the struggle for democracy, Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu evaluated the current situation as a major turning point not only for one party but for the law and democratic future of all of Turkey.

“Yet, the Republican People's Party is one of the strongest representatives of this country's founding values, its struggle for democracy, and the popular will. This situation imposed upon the Republican People's Party is a major turning point and a democratic disgrace for our country in the second century of our Republic. Today, the real issue is not just the CHP. The issue is whether the law can remain independent, whether the value of a citizen's vote can be protected, and how Turkey's democratic future will be shaped. Despite everything, thanks to the people of my country who possess a conscience and stand up for justice and democracy, I maintain my belief in the days when we will achieve the rule of law, democratic values, and social peace.”
