Ekrem İmamoğlu hits back at Akın Gürlek over 'effective remorse' remarks

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu made notable remarks regarding the developments.

İmamoğlu reacted to the statements made by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek yesterday, criticizing the sharing of details regarding judicial processes in the public eye.

"HE IS CONFESSING THAT HE IS AWARE OF ALL JUDICIAL PROCESSES"

Addressing Akın Gürlek’s statements that Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek’s son, Gökhan Böcek, "benefited from effective remorse," İmamoğlu used the following expressions:

"The prosecutor-minister makes a statement in the evening. He says, 'I don't want to talk about this, the judicial process is ongoing,' but then he explains all the details from his own perspective."

In the continuation of his statement, İmamoğlu also made evaluations regarding the Büyükçekmece case.

"Regarding the Büyükçekmece case, for which it is not even clear whether the indictment has been accepted, he says, 'The indictment was accepted, that's what I heard,' and confesses that he is aware of all judicial processes. He provides breaking news saying, 'This person benefited from effective remorse,'" he said.

REACTION TO THE IMM OPERATION

Ekrem İmamoğlu also reacted to the operation carried out against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality this morning. Making statements regarding the detention of IMM bureaucrats, İmamoğlu criticized the method of the operation.

İmamoğlu stated, "Then an operation is carried out in the morning. Our IMM bureaucrats are detained. People who would go to give a statement if invited are subjected to a dawn raid," he said.

Arguing that the ongoing process is political, İmamoğlu included the following words in his statement:

"They are revealing themselves that all of this is political. Our nation sees it all and condemns it in its conscience."
