Ekrem İmamoğlu mocks Murat Kurum's gaffes: 'Ordu Street' reference

Continuing his local election campaign, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the Ordu Street Renovation Project in Fatih.

"OUR NATION SAVED THIS CITY IN 2019"

Making statements after the program, İmamoğlu recalled the 2019 elections. "In 2019, our nation saved this city from a management mentality that viewed Istanbul as its own property," said İmamoğlu, adding, "And the nation realized that every part of this city belongs to them."

HE MADE A REFERENCE TO KURUM'S GAFFES

In the continuation of his speech, İmamoğlu also addressed AKP and MHP's IMM mayoral candidate Murat Kurum, who has recently been on the agenda due to his gaffes. Making a reference to Kurum, who claimed that the name of Ordu Street comes from the province of Ordu, İmamoğlu said:

"You may not know some subjects, you may be a novice... If you are willing to learn, there is no problem. You work harder than anyone else and learn; do you know how inexperience never ends? If you are not inclined to learn, then you have a hard time.

The name of this street in Fatih is Ordu Street... A little further ahead, it turns into Divan Yolu Street. It continues immediately and you reach the historical area, Sultanahmet on the right, Hagia Sophia Mosque on the left, and Topkapı Palace behind it.

A trilogy was created in that period. Homeland, nation, and army... That is, our Armed Forces. This is not the name of a city or a region. It is one of the streets that takes its name from the concepts of homeland, nation, and army."

"I AM ONLY EXPRESSING THAT HE IS A NOVICE"

Touching upon the "novice candidate" remark he made for Murat Kurum, İmamoğlu said, "When I say novice candidate, a different concept is understood. As if Ekrem İmamoğlu is underestimating the candidate or his rival... There is no such thing, I am only expressing that he is a novice. Does the candidate have anything to do with Istanbul or not? Does he have any feeling for Istanbul or not? Does he know the neighborhoods, streets, and districts of Istanbul? All of these are important. One needs to look at where Büyükçekmece is, where Küçükçekmece is? Or which district is on which side."

Stating that Kurum is an appointed and imported candidate, İmamoğlu continued his words as follows;

"Aside from his inexperience regarding Istanbul, he is also an appointed candidate and an imported candidate. The President wants this; 'My will shall prevail, brother, whatever I want will happen.' And we say, whatever 16 million people want, that will happen."
