Ekrem İmamoğlu speaks out against Kılıçdaroğlu with unprecedented harshness: 'I advise our nation not to take this person seriously'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained on March 19, 2025, and is currently undergoing trial while in custody, has made new assessments regarding the 'absolute nullity' process taking place within the CHP.

Speaking to İlke TV, İmamoğlu commented on the appointment of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as CHP Chairman via a court decision on May 21: "The CHP is one; it has been forcibly taken captive and has fallen into the hands of those who do not hope for the support of the CHP delegates, but for Erdoğan. The CHP has been occupied by using force, creating dubious judicial processes, and organizing smear campaigns in the media. This operation is the second step of the coup that began on March 19. And its owner is Erdoğan," he said.

Regarding the roadmap they would determine if the path to a party congress is blocked in the CHP, İmamoğlu stated, "Nearly a thousand of our delegates have signed for a congress. We are still striving for our congress to take place. However, if the congress, which is the demand of CHP members, is forcibly prevented, we are politically, spiritually, and physically ready for a path that will not only slow down the nation's march but accelerate it. I want it to be known that we will not allow another election to be gifted to this government."

Referring to the police entry into the CHP Headquarters on May 24, İmamoğlu spoke as follows:

"The will of our party's delegates elected Mr. Chairman Özgür Özel as leader. If the congress decision, which is a requirement of the law, is made, they will elect him again. However, as we have seen, those who turn somersaults to become trustees are practically running away from the congress. They are ashamed of the CHP's delegates. They thought they could manage the party by entering our headquarters building with police, and they have reached a point where they are playing 'CHP-ism' in the headquarters they have effectively seized."

Regarding comments that "bridges have been burned" with Kılıçdaroğlu, İmamoğlu said, "I do not know what the internal malevolent trustee thinks, nor am I interested. I advise our nation not to take this person seriously, so as not to disturb their peace. Because Turkey has much more important and much more serious issues than him."

Reacting to Kılıçdaroğlu's statements about "purification," İmamoğlu said, "We are running, they are fleeing. A by-election is mentioned, not a peep. The economy is mentioned, not a peep. Title deeds are spilled out, still not a peep. The response is presented to us as a coup. May God not let anyone fall into this situation. While we are running, they can do nothing but destroy everything in their path and flee out of breath. We will continue to run with our nation and we will purify Turkey from this mentality that only understands how to destroy everything. We have dreams and goals. We have things to do for Turkey. I think about and work every day on how Turkey will enter 2050, what we will do in the economy, industry, agriculture, and national security, and how we will live as a nation in peace and tranquility. The nation will already grade them. I love them very much, I trust them very much. The nation will also grade the internal malevolent trustee and those from whom he takes orders and who plan to trample on the national will."
