Ekrem İmamoğlu: 'The nation has no hope left in the government'
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu spoke at the CHP's ongoing "Second Century Change Convention."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made significant remarks at the Republican People's Party (CHP) "Second Century Change Convention" currently being held at ATO Congresium.
In his speech, İmamoğlu stated that the government has plunged the country into an economic crisis and that the public is facing major problems, asserting that the CHP is the party that will make Turkey more democratic.
'THE SUCCESS OF MUNICIPALITIES IS A GREAT LEVER FOR US ON THE PATH TO POWER'
Emphasizing that local governments play a major role in this process, İmamoğlu said, "The nation will look at how we manage the municipalities they have entrusted to us. If we cannot manage the municipalities well, the nation will not grant us power. The success of the municipalities is a great lever for us on the path to power."
'THE PUBLIC IS BELOW THE POVERTY LINE'
In his speech, he stated that Turkey is facing major problems and that it has entered the second century of the Republic with a collapsed justice and education system, with half of the population condemned to live below the poverty line. He also noted that farmers and producers are crushed under debt and that the country has ranked first in food inflation.
'OUR BORDERS HAVE TURNED INTO A SIEVE'
Stating, "Our borders have turned into a sieve. The nation has no hope left in the government. Our responsibility is immense," İmamoğlu expressed that the metropolitan municipalities won after 2019 have increased the perception of success in general elections, but that there is a need for collective wisdom in every election.
Pointing out that the success of municipalities is an important lever on the path to power, İmamoğlu said, "We are the alternative to the government, only us. Let us leave here and show the public that we have the staff to build a fair, social state," emphasizing the importance of convincing the public that they will have better living conditions.
