EMEP reacts to IMM operations! 'The will of the people cannot be seized'

The Labour Party (EMEP) issued a statement on its social media account regarding the third wave of operations carried out this morning against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).

The statement said, "We woke up to a new wave today in the operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which began with the statements of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It has been reported that within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, detention warrants have been issued for 22 people regarding the investigations into IMM subsidiaries Medya AŞ and Kültür AŞ."

The statement further noted:

"The People's Alliance has adopted a method of either seizing municipalities it could not win at the ballot box by appointing trustees or rendering them dysfunctional through the stick of the judiciary. While Erdoğan, aiming to create expectations among the masses following the PKK's decision to lay down arms, says on one hand that the trustee practice will become an 'exception again,' on the other hand, he advocates for narrowing the powers of local governments and increasing the initiative of appointed governors and district governors, based on accusations against IMM Mayor İmamoğlu that have not even come before the judiciary yet.

"ERDOĞAN HAS ADOPTED GOVERNING THROUGH PRESSURE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF HIS POWER" 

In the latest operation brought to the agenda against the IMM, it has been revealed that Erdoğan sees this as an opportunity for himself once the mass anger of the people spilling into the streets subsides slightly. For Erdoğan, governing through pressure has been adopted as a political style for the continuation of his own power. Therefore, the cessation of operations against the IMM and the abandonment of unlawful arrests will only be possible through the organized struggle of the people. Democracy and peace will come to this country through the organized struggle of our peoples, workers, and laborers. We say it once again: The will of the people cannot be seized through the operations of the Palace judiciary."
