Erbakan's statement on presidential candidacy
Fatih Erbakan detailed his party's stance and potential support options ahead of the presidential elections. While the name of former President Abdullah Gül has come to the fore in political circles, Erbakan announced his condition for support.
The fact that Fatih Erbakan appeared in the same frame as former President Abdullah Gül during the D-8 Summit, alongside the leaders of the Future Party, Felicity Party, and DEVA Party, was interpreted in political circles as a signal of a new alliance. While the photograph quickly became a hot topic, claims were made that these four parties could unite around Abdullah Gül to field a joint candidate in the presidential elections.
"THE CANDIDATE MUST COME FROM RIGHT-WING PARTIES"
Commenting on the issue, New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan drew attention to the importance of such unions between right-wing and conservative parties, but used the following expression regarding the presidential candidacy: “I am the presidential candidate. It is out of the question for us to support Abdullah Gül. If right-wing parties come together, we would also support Mansur Yavaş.”
Emphasizing that his party will participate in the election race with its own candidate, Erbakan stated that it is natural for his name to be mentioned in possible cooperation scenarios and that they will act in that direction.
A CLEAR ANSWER TO THE JOINT CANDIDATE QUESTION
Expressing his opinion in clear language, especially regarding the fact that Abdullah Gül's name has come to the agenda, Erbakan stated that such urban legends should not be given credence and that they are not considering any option other than his own candidacy. However, he left a door open for cooperation by stating that if a consensus emerges on a joint candidate for right-wing parties, Mansur Yavaş could also be supported.
Developments regarding the presidential elections, possible cooperation between right-wing parties, and Erbakan's statements will be closely watched in the coming period in terms of political balances.
