Erdal Beşikçioğlu's candidacy causes crisis in CHP

It has been alleged that Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş objected to the nomination of theater and cinema actor Erdal Beşikçioğlu as the CHP's candidate for Etimesgut Mayor, leading to a crisis.

Journalist Saygı Öztürk, who brought the claim to light, stated that the failure to nominate the person Yavaş wanted for Etimesgut created a crisis, saying, "We have learned that upon these developments, Mansur Bey took a firm stance and expressed that he might not run as a candidate himself under these circumstances. We can say that a very significant problem has emerged in the CHP in Ankara right now."

Speaking on Sözcü TV, Öztürk said:

"There must be a number of reasons for this. At the top of these reasons was the development regarding the fact that the person Mansur Yavaş wanted was not nominated for the Etimesgut mayoral candidacy. We have learned that upon these developments, Mansur Bey took a firm stance and expressed that he might not run as a candidate himself under these circumstances. We can say that a very significant problem has emerged in the CHP in Ankara right now."

"MANSUR YAVAŞ'S STANCE AGAINST THE NOMINATION ATTEMPT"

According to Öztürk's claim, Yavaş wanted Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from the IYI Party, to be nominated for Etimesgut, but he took a stance against the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) decision and stated that he would withdraw his candidacy:

"One of Mansur Bey's closest colleagues is Mesut Özarslan, one of the founders of the IYI Party's Ankara Provincial Presidency and also a member of the General Administrative Board. Özarslan resigned from his party a short time ago. The reason for his resignation was that Mansur Bey was not being supported in Ankara and the party was going to field a separate candidate. Özarslan is someone who has good relations with the municipality and Mansur Bey. Instead of nominating Özarslan, a very interesting name, one of the valuable figures of our art world, Erdal Beşikçioğlu, was proposed to be nominated by the MYK. It was alleged that Mansur Bey took a firm stance against the attempt to nominate Erdal Beşikçioğlu from Etimesgut and stated that he would not be a candidate under these circumstances. When we investigated this situation, we learned that the developments took place exactly like this."

STATEMENT FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with members of the press following the MYK meeting on the occasion of January 10, Working Journalists Day. Responding to a question regarding the claim that Mansur Yavaş objected, Özel said, "When I shared my idea with Mansur Bey, he liked it. I hope he still likes it. There is nothing for him to object to. It will add strength to his power. I don't think there will be any trouble there."
