President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made significant remarks at the mass opening ceremony of completed facilities in Trabzon. In his speech, which touched on a wide range of topics from the 3rd offshore airport to be built in Trabzon to the ceasefire in Gaza, Erdoğan directed harsh criticism at the rallies held by the CHP abroad.
REACTION TO THE CHP CHAIRMAN'S BRUSSELS RALLY
President Erdoğan specifically targeted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's rally in Brussels. Erdoğan stated that "those who are corrupt and face allegations of billions of liras in graft are begging Western countries to escape the judiciary," and emphasized that the criticisms Özel made against Turkey abroad damage the nation's honor. Erdoğan expressed that such statements harm Turkey's reputation.
"THEY DO NOT CHANGE"
Erdoğan continued with the following remarks: "Do you feel no shame in criticizing your country in the presence of foreigners? You do not care about your own reputation, but do not let this nation's honor be trampled upon. They do not change..." Addressing Özgür Özel, Erdoğan said, "One must ask the CHP Chairman, do you have no respect for the identity of the main opposition party of Turkey that you carry?"
In his speech in Brussels, Özgür Özel had criticized European leaders. Özel had stated, "Those who have a give-and-take relationship with Erdoğan are those who turn a blind eye to the conspiracy against democracy in Turkey." While criticizing developments in Turkey, he had also drawn attention to the silence of European leaders regarding Turkey.
"AT LEAST DO NO HARM"
Continuing his remarks, Erdoğan said, "Since you are of no benefit to the country or the nation, at least do not cause harm."
Touching upon the aid sent to Gaza in his speech, Erdoğan said, "We have sent more than 100 thousand tons of aid to Gaza in the last 2 years. We have cut off trade with Israel. Despite this, he feels no shame in badmouthing his own country," he said.
