Erdoğan files 500,000 TL lawsuit against Özgür Özel

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has filed a 500,000 TL non-pecuniary damages lawsuit against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

President Erdoğan's lawyer, Hüseyin Aydın, made a statement on his X account.

Aydın stated, "A 500,000 TL non-pecuniary damages lawsuit has been filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance due to the inappropriate expressions, irrational and baseless accusations targeting our President in the speech made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the rally held in Beykoz on January 7, 2026. Additionally, a criminal complaint has been filed with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of insulting the President."

WHAT DID ÖZGÜR ÖZEL SAY?

CHP leader Özgür Özel, in his speech at the rally in Beykoz, said, "Erdoğan, who feeds on the politics of enmity, will hear harsh words if he says bad things to us. But AK Party members and MHP members will hear the solution. Erdoğan will both commit so much evil and, by playing at world leadership, say, 'forget hunger, forget poverty, come and vote for the world leader.' To hell with such a world leader! You are a local autocrat, someone who pushes away the chance to go down in history as a democrat, someone whom this nation will shake off its collar! We want the Presidency to be strong. But the Erdoğan-Trump relationship is a threat to Turkey. Erdoğan is demanding a future for himself from Trump. He is speaking for his own person. He is being threatened regarding his assets. I am calling out to Erdoğan, you will not receive legitimacy from either Junior Trump or father Trump, you will receive it from Beykoz."
