Erdoğan meets with Akın Gürlek at the Palace

President Erdoğan hosted Akın Gürlek, who was appointed to the Ministry of Justice by a decree published in the Official Gazette recently, and Mustafa Çiftçi, who was brought to the Ministry of Interior, at the Palace in the capital. Akın Gürlek becoming the Minister of Justice following Yılmaz Tunç sparked harsh criticism from opposition parties. The tension during Gürlek's oath-taking ceremony at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) also became a major topic. CHP deputies attempted to protest, claiming that Gürlek's appointment was unconstitutional, which led to a scuffle with AKP deputies.

Evaluating the controversies, President Erdoğan made the following remarks after the events in the TBMM: "They displayed every kind of banditry to prevent our new ministers from taking their oaths. You will not be able to block it, you will not be able to stop it; neither your hands nor your power are enough to stop this progress, Özgür!"

HARSH CRITICISM FROM THE CHP PARLIAMENTARY GROUP

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın brought up the recent developments regarding leave processes in penal institutions following the change at the Ministry of Justice. Günaydın stated, "The Minister of Justice has changed. Mehmet Yılmaz is now overseeing the leaves for penal institutions. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday; today is Wednesday, and for five days, not a single deputy has been allowed to see Ekrem İmamoğlu. Do you think you can disconnect Mayor Ekrem and his friends from the public by isolating them? These cruelties of yours will backfire on you. We will not abandon any of our friends to the concrete, and we will hold you accountable for these one by one."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also reiterated his call for Akın Gürlek to disclose his assets during his speech at the party group meeting. Özel said, "I am waiting for Mr. Akın to declare his assets. I have them. They hastily dropped from 16 properties to 12. They are all here, one by one. I invite Mr. Akın to disclose his assets in front of the press. If he does not disclose them, I will reveal them island by island, plot by plot, site by site, apartment by apartment... I expect Mr. Akın to disclose his 12 real estate assets and explain with which salary he and his wife acquired those properties."
