Erdoğan signs: Authority for that metro line transferred to the Ministry!

Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, an important development has occurred regarding ongoing metro projects in Istanbul.

In accordance with a decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the construction of the Kazım Karabekir-Topağacı-Ümraniye Sports Village Rail System Line, which was under the responsibility of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

OFFICIALLY UNDER MINISTRY AUTHORITY

The decision in question is based on the regulation that provides for urban rail transport systems, metros, and related facilities to be undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. With the amendment made within the framework of the Council of Ministers Decision dated October 25, 2010, and numbered 2010/1115, the Kazım Karabekir-Topağacı-Ümraniye Sports Village line has passed under the authority of the Ministry.

According to the text of the decision, the amendment was added as a new sub-clause to clause (a) of Article 3 of the relevant decree. Thus, the line within the scope of the project will be carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

EFFECTIVE AS OF MARCH 20

The decision published in the Official Gazette entered into force as of March 20, 2025. From this date forward, the construction and operation process of the line will be under the control of the Ministry of Transport.
