Erdoğan to Özgür Özel: 'Give up your cafeteria-style leftism'

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan targeted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel during his speech at the Anadolu Agency Istanbul Energy Forum held at the Istanbul Congress Center.

Stating that Turkey's energy projects are not supported by the opposition, Erdoğan said the following:

“I have to share my sadness with you. While we were making history in energy, our people took pride in this. However, the opposition made efforts to overshadow these achievements. They threw mud at our natural gas discovery in the Black Sea. They put forward absurd arguments for the oil discovery in Gabar. Now they are inviting us to the markets and bazaars. We were coming back from the markets while you were just heading there. We have never broken our bond of affection with our people.”

RESPONSE TO CHP ON ENERGY INVESTMENTS

Responding to the CHP's criticisms regarding energy investments, Erdoğan addressed Özgür Özel and said:

“Mr. Özel, why didn't he visit the facility in Filyos? Does he know where the Akkuyu NPP is? Let him get to know Turkey's energy investments, then speak. We are open to constructive criticism from the opposition, but we do not give credit to politics that are just for show.”

'GET RID OF THE HABIT OF CAFETERIA-STYLE LEFTISM'

Erdoğan also touched upon the debates that took place in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) before the 2025 budget negotiations of the Ministry of Interior. Accusing the opposition of being "prone to violence," Erdoğan continued his words as follows:

“There is no tolerance for the images of violence we witnessed under the roof of the Veteran Parliament. I hope the CHP rids itself of the habit of cafeteria-style leftism. The alliances formed with the separatist organization are poisoning the CHP. We have never bowed down to bullying and tyranny, and we will not bow down from now on either.”
