The IYI Party, which decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently', did not achieve the result it expected on March 31.

In the IYI Party, which fell to the position of the sixth party across Turkey, Chairman Meral Akşener decided to hold a convention and announced that she would not be a candidate.

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli commented on Akşener's decision not to be a candidate, saying, "I believe that she should abandon the decision to leave and continue at the head of the party, and that those who are thinking of becoming candidates should rally around her."

It has also been claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on Akşener to 'stay at the head of the party'.

According to the report by Cumhuriyet; it was alleged that during the phone call where Erdoğan exchanged holiday greetings with Akşener for the Ramadan Feast, they discussed the party's results in the local elections and the extraordinary convention, and that he made this call to Akşener. It was claimed that in the phone conversation with Akşener, Erdoğan told her, "Stay at the head of your party, do not leave."

It was noted that Akşener "thanked Erdoğan for his courtesy" during the conversation.
