AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of Hatay joining the motherland.

In the post shared on the social media account of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the following statements were included: "Hatay is a center of brotherhood and tolerance where different cultures and religions live together in peace, and which has hosted ancient civilizations in Anatolia. The decision to integrate with the motherland was taken with the strong will of the people of Hatay. This decision of embrace has added value to our national unity and integrity, highlighted our country's peaceful identity in the international community, and increased its prestige. This decision of integration is an indicator that our noble nation holds its unity and solidarity above all else. We are walking into the future with the same determination and resolve by locking arms around our common values. The earthquake that occurred on February 6, which also covered Hatay, went down in history as the greatest disaster we have been exposed to in the last century. I once again wish God's mercy upon my brothers and sisters who lost their lives in these earthquakes, and patience and condolences to their relatives. With these thoughts, I commemorate with mercy Gazi Mustafa Kemal, Hatay President Tayfur Sökmen, and everyone who exerted effort for this national cause; I greet the people of Hatay and all our citizens with my most heartfelt feelings."
