Turkey will head to the polls for local elections on March 31, 2024.

As political parties accelerate their efforts, the AKP aims to regain the metropolitan municipalities it lost in 2019, primarily Istanbul and Ankara.

"EVERYONE WILL WORK FOR ISTANBUL"

According to the report by Cumhuriyet; It has been learned that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who points to Istanbul in every program he attends, has given the instruction “Everyone will work for Istanbul” to his party’s provincial and district organizations, youth and women’s branch presidencies, as well as members of parliament.

YERLİKAYA’S NAME IS ON THE TABLE

In this context, there is curiosity about whom the AKP will nominate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. It is noted that Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya’s name is also “on Erdoğan’s table” for Istanbul.

Erdoğan has made remarks about Istanbul in many of his speeches, and at the Necip Fazıl Awards program held the other day, he said, “March 31 is very important. March 31 is very important to restore our Istanbul and our Turkey to their true essence.”

"YOU MUST NOT LEAVE A DOOR UNKNOCKED"

In the lobbies, it is stated that Erdoğan warned members of parliament in meetings, saying, “You must not leave a door unknocked or a hand unshaken. For AK Party municipalism to return to Istanbul, everyone will work for Istanbul first. All members of parliament, provincial and district organizations, and women’s and youth branches will be in the field.”
