Erdoğan's statement on Assad: 'He did not appreciate the hand extended to him'

Erdoğan spoke at the 8th Ordinary Provincial Congress of the AKP in Gaziantep. His statements are as follows:

We continue to disappoint the incompetent ones who said 'Erdoğan will remain under this rubble' after the February 6 earthquakes. We possess both the determination and the means to compensate for Antep's losses in material terms. As we promised, we will work without stopping or resting until we reunite our very last brother or sister who is a rights holder with their home, God willing.

SYRIA MUST ATTAIN PEACE

It is certainly impossible for Turkey to close its eyes to developments in a country with which it shares a 910 km long border. We have no designs on even a single pebble of any country. Our wish is for our neighbor Syria to attain the peace and stability it has longed for for 13 years. Just as we attach importance to the well-being of Hatay, we desire for Hama, Homs, Damascus, and Raqqa to be in safety.

There may be borders between us, but our destiny and our grief are shared in this geography. We will continue to be for unity and prosperity for many centuries to come.

There is now a new reality in Syria, both politically and diplomatically. Syria belongs to the Syrians, with all its ethnic, sectarian, and religious elements. It is the Syrians who will decide the future of their own country.

THE DAMASCUS REGIME DID NOT APPRECIATE THE HAND EXTENDED BY TURKEY

I want it to be known that as Turkey, we will not allow any move that would jeopardize our national interests. The events of the last 13 years should show that nothing can be achieved by shedding blood, taking lives, and raining bombs on civilians. Syrian soil has had its fill of war. It has had its fill of blood and tears.

The Damascus regime did not appreciate the hand extended by Turkey.

Turkey is on the right side of history today, just as it was yesterday. We want to see a Syria where no one is excluded, no one is subjected to oppression, and different identities live side by side in peace.
