İYİ Party Esenyurt District Chair Hakan Akkuş and 39 colleagues resign

İYİ Party Esenyurt District Chair Hakan Akkuş and 39 of his colleagues have announced their resignation from the party.

In a statement shared on his social media account, Akkuş explained the process he went through and expressed his discomfort with party leader Meral Akşener's opposition to the opposition.

Recalling Akşener's words, "If you are caught between my decisions and your conscience, listen to the voice of your conscience," Hakan Akkuş used the following expressions in his post:

"My dear fellow travelers, esteemed members of the İYİ Party, and the beloved people of Esenyurt, I begin my words hoping that you will understand me.

Due to my work in multinational companies, I had the opportunity to live and work abroad, especially in the Middle East. During this period, I understood that the degree of our love for our country, which was bequeathed to us by the founder of our Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, can essentially be measured by the service we provide to our country. Consequently, with this motto, as soon as I returned to my country, I decided to put my hand and body under the stone with the dream of a more livable homeland for our children by changing the life order imposed on us by the current government and correcting the course of our country.

Subsequently, I started to engage in politics under the roof of the İYİ Party, my first political party. With the favor of our esteemed members and the people of Esenyurt, and the appreciation of my fellow travelers, I was deemed worthy of the position of İYİ Party Esenyurt District Chair in 2019. Up to this moment, I have carried out the duty of District Chair with great enthusiasm and pride for 3 terms in Esenyurt, which is the most populous district of Turkey.

From the first day I started this duty, I acted with the principle of the well-being and prosperity of our people first. With the sacrifices of my organization and my fellow travelers, I waved our party's flag in Esenyurt day and night and continued my work.

The light of hope we lit in the eyes of our people with our success in the 2019 local elections was a great source of pride for me and my organization. The failure we experienced in the 2023 general elections created great frustration both in us and in our people.

I realized that we need to work harder for the 2024 local elections to emerge from the dark and oppressive days of the government, which is now seen as the unfortunate fate of our country. Our love for our homeland showed us that "even if the road is difficult, one must walk it to the end."

However, we observe with sadness that the incompetent cadre structure, management style, and polarization politics created by the current government are leading our country toward darker days, that democracy and law are being trampled upon, and that we are moving away from common sense. We also state with regret that the same incompetent cadres and management style far from democracy have permeated our party and that the decisions taken are no different from the perspective of the current government.

Furthermore, many of our veteran fellow travelers had to resign from our party due to events that are contrary to our İYİ Party, which was established to change this order imposed by the government, and to the founding philosophy of the İYİ Party. At the stage reached, while heading toward the 2024 local elections, the enthusiasm of our organization has been broken and its hope has faded due to decisions and policies that do not work for the prosperity of our homeland, that pursue personal gain and ambition, that see our party as a testing ground and an advertising face, and that are no different from the perspective of the current government. It has been understood that we cannot continue on this path with this understanding of politics, which will not change even if we emerge victorious from the elections, due to our moving away from our founding philosophy.

Our party, which we founded with great enthusiasm in 2017 with the understanding and philosophy of changing the pessimistic atmosphere and political order created by the current government, and which we continued with the same enthusiasm, has unfortunately moved away from its founding values and purpose.

Our party did not stop there; with its decisions and rhetoric, it has become a copy of the ruling party, and instead of opposing the current ruling party, it has started to oppose the opposition.

As Ms. Meral Akşener always says, the words "if you are caught between my decisions and your conscience, listen to the voice of your conscience" have now found their meaning.

At the stage reached, we must listen to the voice of our conscience and our organization. In this regard, in order to bring the same light of hope to the eyes of our people as we did in the 2019 local elections, and to eliminate the chaos order created by the government in the 2028 general elections, we declare that we will not oppose the opposition, and we are resigning with regret from all our duties in the İYİ Party Esenyurt district presidency and from our party, together with our main staff consisting of a total of 40 people, including 14 district vice chairs and 26 board members.

With the longing for a more livable Turkey... Please forgive our rights.
