Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is being held at Silivri Prison, reported on the visit and remarks made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Altaylı noted that Özel also met with 5 university students imprisoned in Silivri and shared a striking story regarding the students.

"THEIR PARENTS WERE AK PARTY SUPPORTERS, THEY ARE NO LONGER"

While speaking to Altaylı about the imprisoned students, Özel drew attention to the families of the youth, saying, "You remember Doğu Demirtaş, one of the first students to be arrested; they were arrested at Boğaziçi University, and they were treated quite roughly." Specifically noting that the mother of one of the imprisoned students was the AKP Sarıyer Women's Branch President, Özel stated, "The parents of all five of these students were AK Party supporters, but they are no longer."

"WE UNDERSTOOD WHEN IT HAPPENED TO US"

Özel conveyed the regrets of the imprisoned students' families. He shared the words of one father: "When other people's children were thrown in jail, the public would say, 'They must have done something, they wouldn't arrest them just for walking,' and we thought those children were terrorists. It turns out those children were innocent too. We understood when it happened to our own child."
