'EARLY ELECTIONS SHOULD BE HELD IN THE AUTUMN'
Regarding early elections, Erbakan stated that they should be held this autumn and that it would be beneficial for Turkey. Erbakan used the following expressions:
"If they change the constitution to make it as they wish, they will not want to hold early elections. In other words, if there is an arrangement that paves the way for the President to be a candidate again in 2028, when the elections are normally held, they will want to use their term until the end. But if there is no constitutional amendment, I think they will have the parliament take an election decision so that the president can be a candidate again, and this time they will hold this election in 2027. They will not want to bring it forward any earlier. We think that the President is now tired, truly worn out in terms of age and health, that he has remained in office for a period that no one else in the history of the Republic of Turkey has been granted, and that it would be beneficial for him to rest, and that it would be more beneficial for both him and Turkey. If it were up to us, early elections should be in the autumn. However, when looking at the situation of the public, the conditions of Turkey, and the polls regarding early elections, I see that it would be beneficial for early elections to be held as soon as possible."
