First reaction from CHP after operation on Ataşehir Municipality: 'When AK Party figures are elected...'
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek reacted sharply on social media to the detention of Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel. Zeybek emphasized that they would not take a step back against the pressures on their party.
CHP Deputy Chairman in charge of Local Governments, Gökan Zeybek, issued a statement criticizing the operation conducted on Ataşehir Municipality during the night and the detention of Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel. In his post on his social media account, Zeybek referred to the March 31 local election results and reminded that Onursal Adıgüzel had left his AK Party rival far behind.
Sharing the election results, Zeybek stated, "When AK Party figures are elected, there is no problem. But when the nation elects CHP figures, it bothers this government. They immediately organize an operation, claiming that this is what the National Will requires.
Look here! This was the election result in Ataşehir. Our Mayor Onursal beat his closest rival by a margin of 52 thousand votes.
When they could not respond at the ballot box, they left the dawn and organized a midnight operation against our Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel, who previously served as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairman, and our colleagues.
Just as it happened before in Beykoz and Şile. Let Turkey know. The government sees the elections, our people's votes, and their choices as worthless!
We will resist the attacks on our mayors and our party. We stand behind Onursal Adıgüzel to the end. We will not take a step back from protecting our municipalities and the will of the people under any circumstances!"
