First statement from CHP after Kılıçdaroğlu hearing! 'They want to intimidate everyone'

CHP's 7th Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu appeared in court today in the case where he is being tried with a request for 11 years and 8 months of imprisonment and a political ban following a complaint by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Making his defense in the hearing, Kılıçdaroğlu said, "This is not a defense, but a speech where I have found the opportunity to prove my words."

'WE STAND WITH DEMOCRACY'

Following Kılıçdaroğlu's defense, CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Gökhan Günaydın made statements in front of the courthouse.

Günaydın used the following expressions:

"The speeches made by Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu have been considered evidence of a crime 10 years later. The case was filed in Mersin. It was recorded via SEGBİS. It was a statement lasting approximately 1 hour. Evidence was presented by the lawyer. The case will be heard in Mersin.

This case, which was filed as soon as his parliamentary duty ended, is an intimidation tactic directed at everyone. It means, 'Let no one oppose, only our word should carry weight.' As members of the CHP, we stand with our former Chairman, we stand with democracy."
