First statement from CHP following the party congress lawsuit ruling
No ruling was issued in the lawsuit filed over allegations of "irregularities" regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress. The case was adjourned until September 8. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır stated, "This case was filed with a schizophrenic petition. While justice should provide confidence, it is creating anxiety."
The lawsuit filed regarding the Republican People's Party's (CHP) 38th Ordinary Congress, which has caused widespread repercussions in Turkish politics, was heard today at the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance. The parties appeared before the judge for the first time in the hearing, which began at 10:00 AM.
The lawsuit was filed by the lawyer of Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş. The petition claimed that the congress was "tainted" and requested its cancellation. At the same time, it was demanded that Özgür Özel be removed from his position as Chairman.
The CHP's lawyer strongly opposed the lawsuit, stating, "The plaintiff's counsel has effectively become a national security issue." After hearing the parties, the court adjourned the case to a later date. The new hearing date was announced as September 8, 2025.
BAŞARIR: WE WILL NOT DEAL WITH THIS NONSENSE
Speaking to members of the press after the hearing, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır reacted sharply to the process. Stating that the case was based on a "schizophrenic" petition, Başarır said, "This is not our agenda; we want to take this country to an early election."
Başarır continued his remarks as follows:
"A lawsuit cannot be like this. We will not deal with a case full of nonsense. We will continue to focus on Turkey's real problems. As a legal professional, I can say that this case should be dismissed."
