First statement from CHP's İzmir candidate Cemil Tugay! 'İzmir will be governed by people with clean hearts'

With 2 months left until the local elections, political parties have accelerated their election campaigns.

CHP's highly anticipated İzmir Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate is Cemil Tugay. Addressing citizens in İzmir after his candidacy was announced, Tugay stated, "From now on, we will do more. From now on, we will carry the flag we have received even higher. While Turkey struggles with poverty and unemployment, we will take better care of our people."

Tugay's statements are as follows;

"My party deemed me worthy of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidacy. I would like to thank everyone who deemed me worthy of this duty, especially our Chairman Özgür Özel, our Central Executive Board (MYK), our Party Assembly (PM), our deputies, and everyone who has stood by me during this process.

Before me, of course, others were carrying this flag. Our most recent mayor, Tunç Soyer, carried this flag and served the most beautiful city in the world. I would like to thank each of them individually. I consider it a patriotic duty to live up to the flag they raised and the invaluable legacy and values they brought to İzmir.

İzmir is a city that gives freedom and happiness to its people with its unique qualities, and strength and courage to its country. In this sense, İzmir is the symbolic city of Turkey and the Republic. As the CHP, we have carried this trust and this legacy with honor and pride to this day. We have protected our city from all kinds of exploitation, and we have fought for the rights and freedoms of our people. With our social policies, we have acted as a kind of insurance against the difficulties our society faces.

From now on, we will do more. From now on, we will carry the flag we have received even higher. While Turkey struggles with poverty and unemployment, we will take better care of our people.

We will make those who do not own a home homeowners, and those who do not have a job jobholders.

We will enrich İzmir. Our young people will now want to live in this city. They will not want to go anywhere else from this city. Every citizen living in this city will know that the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will always be by their side.

And the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will be governed by people with clean hands and clean hearts.

We will pave the way for everyone who wants to contribute to this city and build upon what we have. We will stand by them, and we will do our part to provide municipal services to our people more extensively and at more affordable prices.

Over the next 2 months, together with our friends, we will explain to you one by one the projects we have prepared to make İzmir the most livable, clean, orderly, and prosperous city in Turkey. You will see that this city will be a place where everyone in Turkey wants to live. In fact, it is already such a place. Everyone already looks at Turkey with envy. Everything achieved in İzmir to date is the success of CHP administrations. Everyone should know this, and it is my duty to ensure that those who speak to smear us keep this in mind in the coming months and years.
