First statement released following meeting between President Erdoğan and Barzani

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq, at the Presidential Complex. During the meeting, views were exchanged on Turkey-Iraq relations and cooperation with the KRG, and regional and global developments were discussed. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended the closed-door meeting. The meeting between the delegations lasted approximately one hour.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Communications, it was emphasized that views were exchanged on Turkey-Iraq relations and cooperation with the KRG, and that regional and global developments were discussed.

Here is that statement;

"During the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his wishes for the KRG parliamentary elections to be held on October 20 to be auspicious. He stated his belief that the elections, in which the Iraqi Turkmen Front will also compete, will be conducted with an inclusive approach, in peace and tranquility.

EMPHASIS ON ISRAEL

President Erdoğan stated that the increasingly aggressive stance of Israel carries the risk of turning the region into a total war zone, that Turkey attaches great importance to the stability and security of the entire region, and that he appreciates the efforts of Iraqi authorities to keep the country away from the conflict.

DEVELOPMENT ROAD PROJECT

President Erdoğan underlined that the Development Road Project will make a significant contribution to the economic development, stability, and brotherhood of the entire region, and that this project will also benefit the KRG in every respect.

PEACE AND PROSPERITY IN THE REGION

President Erdoğan also stated that in this difficult period we are in, cooperation aimed at permanently eliminating the terrorist threat that targets the peace, prosperity, and internal stability of the entire region must be continued with determination.

President Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey will continue to stand by the friendly and brotherly Iraq and the Iraqi people, just as it has done until now."
