Flash development in the Saraçhane case

The trial of the young people who were detained at the rally held in Saraçhane on July 1, the 100th day of the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, was held today. In the trial held at the Istanbul Courthouse, a total of 35 young people, 13 of whom were in custody, appeared before the judge.

The hearing began at 11:00 AM with identity checks. The courtroom was filled with the intense interest of the young people's families, relatives, and politicians. CHP Deputy Chairman Suat Özçağdaş and IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan were also among those observing the hearing.

13 YOUNG PEOPLE RELEASED

The court panel issued a release order for the 13 young people who had been in custody for a long time. Thus, all of the young people who were in prison due to the Saraçhane protests have been released.

SERIOUS ACCUSATIONS IN THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office, a penalty was requested for the young people under Article 32/1 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911, on charges of "refusing to disperse despite warnings."

Furthermore, 7 of the 35 young people were also charged with "insulting the President." The prosecutor's office claimed that this crime was committed in a chain manner and requested prison sentences of up to 7 years, 10 months, and 15 days for each of the young people in question.
