Fugitive Police Chief crisis: Brother found in his vehicle, revealed to be a Palace bodyguard

Former Antalya Police Chief İlker Arslan has been detained following the initiation of legal proceedings against him on allegations of "brokering bribery," "unjust enrichment," and "fraud" as part of an investigation conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.

HE WENT TO ANKARA IN HIS OFFICIAL VEHICLE

Arslan, who took his official service vehicle while still in office and traveled from Antalya to Ankara, spent the night at his daughter's home in Kurtuluş in the capital. He learned of the legal proceedings against him during a meeting at the General Directorate of Security's Personnel Department. The Ministry of Interior was also informed of this development.

HE TURNED OFF HIS PHONES AND FLED

After the detention order was communicated to Arslan, the Ankara Police Department called him. However, Arslan turned off both his official and personal phones and disappeared. This situation led to comments that he had "fled."

TRACKED VIA LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION CAMERAS

After the prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant, the General Directorate of Security's Intelligence Department stepped in. Both Arslan's phone signals and the License Plate Recognition System (PTS) records of his official vehicle were examined. The vehicle was tracked down on the Niğde Highway.

HIS BROTHER EMERGED FROM THE VEHICLE

When Arslan's official vehicle, which was tracked to Ankara under the pretext of attending a wedding, was stopped in the Cihanbeyli district of Konya, a major surprise occurred. It was not Arslan who emerged from the vehicle, but his brother, C.T.A. C.T.A., who is also a police officer, was taken into custody.

It was revealed that the detained C.T.A. served on the staff of the Presidential Protection Department, which is responsible for the security of President Erdoğan and his family. Following this development, C.T.A. was also suspended from duty.

SUSPICION OF "LEAKING INFORMATION"

According to allegations circulating within police circles, İlker Arslan learned of the detention order against him before it was issued and set off for Ankara. Furthermore, it was claimed that Arslan and several other police officers are accused of leaking information to assist Gökhan Böcek, the son of Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek, in evading capture.

Arslan is known to be part of the "Milli Görüş" faction within the police force. Having joined the protection team of then-Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan two years after graduating from the Police Academy, Arslan became one of the figures who rose to prominence during the AKP era.

INSPECTOR APPOINTED

Following the scandal, administrative proceedings were initiated against the Arslan brothers. The Ministry of Interior has appointed an inspector to investigate the matter.
