Applause crisis in AKP: Party leadership intervened

The agenda at the AKP's traditional consultation camp held in Kızılcahamam this year was the "applause crisis" that occurred during the speeches of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This situation, which took place during Erdoğan's opening speech, caused notable discussions at the camp.

AKBAŞOĞLU'S FREQUENTSTANDINGOVATIONS DREW CRITICISM

The crisis began when AKP Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu stood up and applauded almost every five minutes while Erdoğan was speaking. This behavior by Akbaşoğlu forced some deputies to respond in the same way,leadingto frustration.

Some deputies who were uncomfortable with the situation stated that this pace of applause created an atmosphere of obligation. According to the report by Mahmut Aydın and Tarık Işık from Nefes Gazetesi, the following comments were made among party members:

"Because Akbaşoğlu stands up every time, we feel forced to stand up as well. This creates both an artificial image and causes discomfort in the public eye. When citizens watch this on television, they find this scene insincere."

PARTY LEADERSHIP STEPPED IN

Upon increasing complaints, party officials intervened in the situation. Warnings were issued to the deputies that they should be more measured regarding applause. 

The applause debate became one of the most significant topics discussed among deputies throughout the duration of the camp.
