CHP's Başarır lashes out at pro-government columnist targeting Özgür Özel: 'If I don't cut out that tongue of yours...'

Attacks on the Alawite population in the Latakia region of Syria have become a global agenda item. The CHP has taken action in the face of these attacks, which are spearheaded by various jihadist groups. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has tasked a delegation of 15 deputies to examine the developments in the region. The delegation held a press conference in the Arsuz district of Hatay.

In the statement, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır addressed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Stating that direct intervention against HTS leader Abu Muhammad al-Jolani is necessary, Başarır used the following expressions:

"I am now addressing the Foreign Minister and the President from here. Since you have influence over that person called Jolani, you will call him immediately. You will give instructions. You will also send that Foreign Minister and the head of the MIT to Syria for the 3.5 million Arab Alawites living there."

''IF I DON'T CUT OUT THAT TONGUE OF YOURS''

In his statement, Başarır also reacted harshly to an article by Yeni Şafak columnist İsmail Kılıçarslan that targeted the CHP and Chairman Özgür Özel. Stating that Kılıçarslan used demeaning language in his article, referring to the CHP as "a group of dogs you can find to defend," Başarır said:

"Now, if we speak two words, investigations are opened, journalists are arrested, artists are arrested, mayors are arrested. Yesterday, I saw a vile article. A so-called columnist for the Yeni Şafak newspaper said about our Chairman and us, 'you can find a group of dogs to defend.' As long as Ali Mahir Başarır and his friends are alive, if I don't cut out that tongue of yours, may God damn me!"

''IF NECESSARY, WE WILL GO TO LATAKIA''

Stating that the international community must intervene in the attacks in Syria, Başarır called for the opening of a humanitarian aid corridor. Başarır stated that if the government does not take action, they will go to Latakia as the CHP:

"We will make our statement to the whole world right at the border, after Samandağ. We will call out to international powers and institutions. First of all, this massacre must be stopped. A humanitarian corridor will be opened there during this process. If these are not done, our next step will be to go to Latakia with our deputies. If it is death, then it is death. Rather than dying every day, we will die once. There is no problem at all!"
