CHP prophecy from Fatih Altaylı! 'A redesign process'
Following the cancellation of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress and the removal of Özgür Çelik from office, with Gürsel Tekin appointed as a trustee in his place, journalist Fatih Altaylı has shared a notable assessment of the CHP. Here are the details...
The 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress held by the CHP in 2023 has been cancelled by a court decision. The Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance removed Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and his administration from office, appointing Gürsel Tekin as a temporary replacement. The decision has sparked major controversy within the CHP.
NAMES IN THE INDICTMENT
In the prepared indictment, a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years was requested for ten politicians, including Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, as well as Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat.
The court stated that the claims of the plaintiff side “went beyond simple allegations.” The right to appeal the decision remains open.
CRITICAL DEVELOPMENT BEFORE THE CONVENTION
The Istanbul decision, which came before the CHP's convention case to be heard at the Ankara 42nd Criminal Court of First Instance on September 15, has shaken the political agenda. How the cancellation of the provincial congress will affect the convention case has become a subject of curiosity.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is currently detained in Silivri, made the following remarks regarding the process on his YouTube broadcast:
“It is not difficult to predict that the month of September will not pass easily for the CHP and Turkey. This matter could initiate a process that leads to the redesign of the CHP. One should not think of this trustee issue separately from the summary of proceedings regarding Özgür Özel.”
Removed Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik claimed that the decision was political. Çelik expressed his reaction with the words, “The CHP is the people, it is the ancestral home, it cannot be taken over.” The CHP will continue the appeal process through both political and legal channels.
“I AM A CHP MEMBER, THE DECISION IS INVALID”
Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as the trustee, responded to the criticisms against him. Tekin said, “This decision, taken by the referral of the Central Executive Board (MYK) to the High Disciplinary Board, is not legally valid. An expulsion decision made without granting the right to defense is invalid. I am a CHP member.” Tekin also stated that he accepted the offered position, saying he would “save the CHP from judicial corridors.”
