'Enemy brothers' tension in the AKP! Yerlikaya-Soylu conflict reflected in legislative proposal: They have no tolerance left for each other
According to AKP insiders, the tension between Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Chairman of the Parliamentary Interior Commission Süleyman Soylu lies behind the scenes of the discussions in the Justice Commission regarding the legislative proposal to increase traffic fines. It was also noted that Süleyman Soylu went on Hajj during the period when the proposal was being discussed. Here are the details...
The legislative proposal prepared by the Ministry of Interior, which includes increasing traffic fines, was brought to the agenda before the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) went on holiday break.
However, the fact that the proposal was discussed in the Justice Commission instead of the Interior Commission drew the attention of both the opposition and some AKP deputies. Although the objection of commission members, "Shouldn't this proposal have been discussed in the Interior Commission?" was met with the explanation that "it contains penalty clauses," it turned out that the reason discussed in AKP corridors was quite different.
According to journalist Nuray Babacan, the personal tension between the current Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and TBMM Interior Commission Chairman Süleyman Soylu lies behind the proposal being handled in the Justice Commission.
The successor-predecessor relationship between the two figures who shared the same seat has turned into hostility. Babacan used the phrase "They have no tolerance for each other" for this situation.
According to information based on sources within the AKP, under normal circumstances, the Interior Minister and the Commission Chairman should have prepared the legislative proposal together and made joint statements to the public.
However, since even the presence of Soylu and Yerlikaya in the same environment posed a problem, a formula was implemented to discuss the proposal in a different commission.
SOYLU WENT ON HAJJ WHILE THE PROPOSAL WAS BEING DISCUSSED
A detail that makes the discussions even more interesting is that Süleyman Soylu was abroad on a Hajj pilgrimage during the period when the proposal was on the agenda in Parliament. It is alleged that Soylu has been staying away from party activities for a long time and wants to leave his post as Chairman of the TBMM Interior Commission. At the same time, there are comments within the AKP that Soylu's remaining in the background is a conscious choice.
According to Nuray Babacan's article titled "The never-ending conflicts of tense AKP members...", this tension is just one of the internal conflicts growing within the AKP. Babacan stated that there are similar tensions between many people in the party currently, saying, "Don't let the attacks on the CHP in the pro-government media fool you; there is plenty of material for those who want it within the AKP as well."
