Fatih Altaylı announces from prison: 'Operations against the CHP were not carried out this weekend, because...'

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, currently detained at Silivri Prison, has put forward a new claim regarding the detention and arrest operations carried out against CHP-run municipalities on weekends. Altaylı described the fact that no detentions or arrests took place last weekend as a "surprise."

“THERE WERE NO OPERATIONS SO THE AKP'S SHOW WOULD NOT BE OVERSHADOWED”

In the assessment he wrote regarding this situation, Altaylı used the following expressions:

“The surprise of this weekend was that there were no arrests or detentions. The reason is clear; our independent judiciary (!) did not want the President's remarks at the AKP's Consultation Meeting in Kızılcahamam and the PKK's 30-person disarmament show in Sulaymaniyah to fall into the background, so they skipped this weekend. But they will continue from where they left off next week.”

President Erdoğan, in his speech at the AKP's Kızılcahamam camp, targeted CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and stated that he "does not take him seriously." Altaylı, however, stated that this rhetoric was insincere and said the following:

“Erdoğan says he does not take Özgür Özel seriously, but he devotes the majority of his speech to Özel. If he doesn't take him seriously, why does he deal with him in every speech? I am truly curious what he would do if he did take him seriously. Is it because he doesn't take him seriously that CHP mayors are being arrested like rain? Summaries of proceedings against Özel are pouring into Parliament.”

Altaylı also drew attention to another statement made by Erdoğan at the Kızılcahamam camp. The President had said, "We will carry out the new process together as MHP-DEM-AKP." Altaylı evaluated this expression as the "joint responsibility" of the process being carried out.
