First comment from MHP following Bahçeli's 'Demirtaş should return to his nest' remark: Is Demirtaş being released?
Speaking after MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's statements regarding Selahattin Demirtaş, Abdullah Öcalan, and Ahmet Türk, MHP officials stated that the latest conviction ruling against Demirtaş could also be overcome.
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made a notable assessment regarding the Imralı Process during his party's Group Meeting held on February 3.
Bahçeli brought up the issue of granting the 'Right to Hope' to PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan, alongside the topics of Selahattin Demirtaş's release and the reinstatement of Ahmet Özer and Ahmet Türk to their positions.
MHP OFFICIALS SPOKE
Evaluating Bahçeli's statements to journalist İsmail Saymaz, MHP officials stated that there is no new situation for them regarding these topics. It was reported that the officials assessed the situation by saying, "There is no new situation for us."
According to Saymaz, MHP officials stated that the legal obstacles to Selahattin Demirtaş's release could be overcome. It was noted that this approach is being maintained despite the prison sentences handed down recently.
İsmail Saymaz reported that the MHP figures he spoke with made the following assessment:
"They say that another court decision was issued after this process regarding Selahattin Demirtaş, and that it too can be overcome. A new conviction decision was issued recently. Despite this, they declare that it is clear from the MHP's perspective that Selahattin Demirtaş should return to his home."
In their assessments, MHP officials emphasized that the topics of Selahattin Demirtaş, Abdullah Öcalan, and Ahmet Türk are necessary for Turkey's peace and environment of tranquility.
The officials stated that Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had expressed these demands at different times before and that he underlined them once again in his latest statement.
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had used the following expressions in his speech at the Group Meeting:
"Our decision is clear until Anatolia returns to peace, Öcalan to hope, the Ahmets to their offices, and Demirtaş to his home. I greet you all with love and respect."
In January, Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to 1 year, 5 months, and 15 days in prison in the case where he was tried on charges of "insulting the President."
In the Kobani case, where the verdict was announced in May 2024, a prison sentence of 42 years was handed down for Demirtaş and 30 years and 3 months for Figen Yüksekdağ.
