He said there could be two main reasons... He explained why Mansur Yavaş did not participate in the primaries
It has been learned that Mansur Yavaş will not participate in the primary election that the CHP will organize to determine its presidential candidate. Yavaş stated that he is concerned about intra-party divisions and emphasized that the main agenda should be the economy. Journalist İsmail Küçükkaya explained why Mansur Yavaş did not participate in the primaries within the party.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) has decided to hold a primary election with its 1 million 600 thousand members to determine its presidential candidate.
While the party leadership argued that it would not be meaningful to demand an early election before determining a candidate since the regular elections are in 2028, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş to discuss this issue.
Following the meeting, it was learned that Mansur Yavaş would not participate in the primary election.
It was stated that Yavaş argued that a primary election should not be the sole criterion in the candidate determination process and that he is concerned about potential divisions within the party.
''OUR PRIORITY SHOULD BE THE ECONOMY''
It was reported that Yavaş stated that the CHP's main agenda should be the economy, saying, “Our agenda should be hunger and poverty. People are in a miserable state, and we can only change the government by giving confidence that we can solve these problems. Our priority should be to produce solutions to the public's economic difficulties.”
Journalist İsmail Küçükkaya commented on Yavaş's decision. Küçükkaya noted that Yavaş said the files in front of him at yesterday's meeting contained polls and the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality's social aid data, and stated the following:
"TO A CONTRADICTION..."
These files probably contain the following. One; there are polls. Two; there is the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality's social aid.
Because they had presented them to Özgür Özel in this way as well.
Most likely, a decision will come out of the party assembly today... We are making a prediction. Most likely, a primary election decision will come out of the party assembly today.
Since Mansur Yavaş finds it wrong and does not want to fall into a contradiction with himself, he will not participate, and from there, most likely, İmamoğlu will be declared the candidate with the votes of approximately 700,000-800,000 people.
"MANSUR YAVAŞ IS NOT GOING TO CAUSE A SCENE AND LEAVE"
But as some expect, Mansur Yavaş is not going to cause a scene and leave or anything like that. Because developments will be monitored.
The government is indeed saying, as the İmamoğlu side always says, "They have gone all in." If that is truly the case, and if he is somehow left out of the game, then they will play the Mansur Yavaş card, as Mansur Yavaş is already in the game. In such a scenario, let's say they banned İmamoğlu while he was a candidate, and the CHP put forward Mansur Yavaş. An extra 10 points would be added to Mansur Yavaş's tally.
